Juvenile crime wave hits Haren
Police in the Groningen town of Haren have arrested 41 youths between the ages of 13 and 21 in connection with a vandalism and arson spree.
The arrests were made over a period of weeks and stem from an incident in August when a man was tied up at his home by a group of teenagers.
The youths are suspected of setting fires, vandalism and daubing buildings with swastikas. Police put the damage they have caused at tens of thousands of euros.
One 16-year-old remains in custody in connection with an arson attack on a centre for the deaf, the Telegraaf reports.
The teenagers say their crime spree was prompted by boredom and alcohol.
Haren is a wealthy village of 15,000 people just south of the city of Groningen.
