‘Give teachers performance-related pay’

Teachers who perform well should be given performance-related bonuses, with pupils, other teachers and school boards judging how well they do their jobs, the education council says in a new report entitled ‘Towards more targeted education’.

The report also suggests increasing class sizes to between 50 and 75 pupils and having more than one teacher in charge. This would allow teachers to talk about specific problems with smaller sub-groups of pupils, the NRC quotes the report as saying.
Education is one of the areas of government policy facing spending cuts of up to 20% as part of government efforts to get the budget deficit under control.
The biggest teaching union AOb has already dismissed the report as a hype which contains no evidence that teaching can be made cheaper and more productive, the NRC says.
