Youth football team still in custody
Eleven football players from the same youth team, several of whom are under the age of 16, are still being held in police custody in connection with an attack on another player on Saturday, Nos tv reports on Wednesday.
The players from VV Gestel’s A1 team are alleged to have beaten up a player from the opposing team, who spent a night in hospital with injuries to his back and legs.
Fourteen boys were originally arrested but three have been released. The 11 other boys have all refused to give a statement, Nos quotes a police spokesman as saying.
‘Let us not forget what happened. They molested another boy and then laughed about it,’ the spokesman told Nos.
Eight of the boys have the same lawyer and the legal requirement that the parents of younger boys be present is also taking a lot of time to organise, Nos said.
