Groninger museum to shut for seven months

Groningen’s well-regarded Groninger museum is to close for seven months between May and December next year, museum director Kees van Twist says in Thursday’s Volkskrant.

The museum, which opened 15 years ago, currently attracts some 250,000 visitors a year, two-thirds of whom come from outside the province. The original target was 90,000 visitors a year.
Twist said proper agreements with contractors are essential to make sure the renovations are completed on schedule.
In Amsterdam, revamps of the city’s Rijks museum, Stedeljik modern art museum and maritime museum have all been delayed because of contractual problems.
