Football transfer season ends, few shocks
The football transfer period ended on Tuesday with little last-minute activity from Dutch premier division clubs, news agency ANP reported on Wednesday.
In total, 431 transfers were registered by Dutch professional clubs. Of those, 93 involved players moving abroad and 95 involved new arrivals to the Netherlands. Within the Netherlands itself, 243 players changed clubs, the football association KNVB said.
There were no major transfers. Footballer of the year Mounir el Hamdaou is to remain at AZ until the winter transfer season at least. Jonathan de Guzman stays at Feyenoord, Keisuke Honda at VVV-Venlo and Luis Suarez at Ajax. All had been candidates to move.
Internationals
Ajax made three notable acquisitions, bringing in striker Marko Pantelic and borrowing two Brazilians – Kerlon Mauro Souza and midfielder Zé Eduardo. But it has not managed to sell expensive players such as Olegeur, Rasmus Lindgren and George Ogararu, ANP says.
Last year’s league champions AZ also brought in Swedish player Rasmus Elm on a four year contract. PSV had also been interested in him, ANP said.
A final major mover internationally is John Heitinga who is leaving Atlético Madrid for Everton in a €6m deal. Heitinga joined the Spanish side from Ajax in 2008 but has scored just three times in 27 matches, website vi.nl said.
