FNV trade union delays traditional pay claim
The FNV trade union federation has decided for the second year running not to follow tradition and announce its annual pay claim guidelines to coincide with the publication of the government’s 2010 budget, BNR radio reports.
Instead, the federation is to wait until employers have decided how to proceed with an earlier-agreed deal on pay moderation, training and job creation, BNR said.
This spring, unions agreed to moderate their pay claims and to focus on maintaining spending power in return for employer concessions on training and combating youth unemployment.
FNV pay coordinator Wilna Wind said that while employers were creating internships and work-experience programmes for young people, these had not yet produced concrete results.
