Vermeer’s famous painting The Milkmaid is to be loaned by Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum to the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in New York for a special exhibition of 17th century Dutch artists, reports the AP press agency.

It will be the first time the Vermeer masterpiece, which was painted in 1657-1658, has been on show in the US in 70 years, says AP.
The exhibition, which runs from September 10 to the end of November, will also feature five other works by Johannes Vermeer from the New York museum’s own collection.
