Unemployment rate climbs marginally

The Dutch official unemployment rate climbed just 0.1 percentage point to 4.9% in July, the national statistics office CBS said on Thursday.

A year ago, the unemployment rate was 4%, meaning the jobless total has increased by 78,000. Three-quarters of the newly unemployed are male, with men accounting for the entire increase among 15 to 24-year-olds, the CBS said.
‘That is because many girls opt for the healthcare and education sectors which are not sensitive to recession,’ CBS economist Michiel Vergeer told the Volkskrant.
