‘New state lottery boss must be paid less’

The next head of the state lottery must be paid ‘considerably less’ than the current director who earned almost half a million euros last year according to finance minister Wouter Bos on Thursday.

Various media report that Yvonne van Oort, who was appointed to head the state lottery body four years ago, earned €420,000 (including a €48,000 bonus) in 2008. Her salary was approved of by the finance ministry at the time.
On Thursday Bos pointed out that the state lottery organisation is a semi-public sector organisation.
As such the salaries of its managers are not bound by the €181,000 per year limit (the annual salary of the prime minister or the so-called so-called Balkenende norm) which applies to public sector salaries.
