A2 closed after eight-vehicle pile-up

Eight people have been taken to hospital following a pile-up involving four cars, three coaches and a lorry on the A2 just south of Amsterdam on Wednesday morning.

The A2 between Abcoude and Vinkeveen was closed to traffic until early afternoon and one lane of the A2 in the direction Amsterdam was used by emergency vehicles. Traffic was diverted via the A1, where jams quickly built up.
The coaches were carrying 140 students from the national flying academy in Hoofddorp who were on their way to the funeral of a fellow pupil, news agency ANP reported.
The cause of the crash is not yet known.
