Swimming teacher Benno L, who is under investigating for sexually abusing dozens of girls, assaulted at least two girls in the 1980s, RTL news reported on Wednesday evening.

The mother of one girl went to the police in 1996. No action was taken even though L admitted his guilt because he claimed to have changed. In addition, the case was older than the 12-year statute of limitations on sex crimes, RTL said.
L was also investigated after complaints of inappropriate behaviour were made against him in 2004. But police did not examine the 1996 allegations because that would have been against privacy regulations, RTL said.
