One of the bodyguards who accompanied Russian president Dmitry Medvedev during his weekend visit to the Netherlands was fined €1,000 and ordered to pay €200 compensation to a hotel worker he assaulted, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.
The trainee at the Amsterdam hotel where the Russian delegation was staying reported the indecent assault to the police on Saturday.
The man was arrested and later released because ‘the facts were not serious enough to hold him any longer,’ a spokeswoman for the public prosecution department told the paper.
‘The chance was extremely small that he would show up in court so we offered to settle for €1,000, which he accepted and paid.
‘We also told him to pay €200 compensation to his victim, which he did. We consider the case now closed,’ the spokeswoman said.
