Pension funds urged to invest in economy
The finance ministry wants institutional investors such as pension funds and insurance companies to invest more in Dutch companies, including financial services groups, the NRC reports on Monday.
Senior staff from the civil service and health service pension funds, insurance companies and a number of investment funds are due to meet finance ministry officials on Tuesday to discuss economic developments.
A spokesman for finance minister Wouter Bos said the meeting will not focus specifically on generating investment in the financial sector. ‘We want to hear from the funds and insurance companies what opportunities they see and what obstacles are standing in their way,’ he said.
The NRC says pension funds, insurance companies and unions are reluctant to see politically-motivated investments in the economy. ‘We invest on the basis of our own investment strategy and our portfolio,’ a spokesman for the insurance association told the paper.
