Pathologists call for more autopsies
Autopsies are only carried out on 3% of people suspected of dying a natural death, but science needs between 10% and 20%, Nos tv quotes the Dutch pathologists’ association as saying.
The decline is due to family fears about damage to the bodies of the deceased. Doctors are also reluctant to ask families if the cause of death can be investigated, the association says.
Autopsies are vital to keep medical knowledge up to date.
