Part-time benefit scheme to be extended

Social affairs minister Piet Hein Donner has found extra money to pay for extending the part-time unemployment benefit scheme, the NRC reports on Wednesday.

Part-time unemployment benefit (ww) was brought in at the end of March. Under the scheme, companies which can prove their turnover has gone down by at least 30% because of the economic crisis can cut staff hours by up to 50%. The difference in salary is made up from ww funds.
Earlier this week, Donner announced that the €375m set aside to fund the scheme had already been used up.
The minister will now meet employers and unions to discuss how to proceed further, the paper says.
