Government spending under EU average
The Dutch government spent €270bn last year, equivalent to 45.5% of gross national product, the national statistics office CBS said on Monday.
On average EU governments spend 46.8% of GDP.
Some 20% of Dutch GDP goes on social security benefits, among the highest rates, the CBS said.
The British and Irish governments spend the biggest percentages of GDP in total, while spending well below average on social security benefits, the CBS said.
