Fortuna wins football court case
The football association KNVB must allow Limburg club Fortuna Sittard to play in the first division next season despite its financial problems, a court in Utrecht ruled on Wednesday.
The KNVB withdrew the club’s licence earlier this year because it could not provide a solid spending plan.
The court said the KNVB had made procedural errors and Fortuna should be included in the league.
Plans for Fortuna to merge with premier league team Roda JC failed because Limburg province withdrew its financial support. A majority of fans were opposed.
