China refuses MPs entry (update)
China has refused entry to a delegation of seven MPs who planned to visit the country for a working visit next month, Nos tv reports.
The Chinese ambassador to the Netherlands told MPs about the ban, Nos says.
‘The ambassador told me the China’s People’s Congress was too busy to receive us,’ MP Henk Jan Ormel told Dutch world service radio.
The delegation had hoped to talk to Chinese politicians about human rights and foreign policy as well as experience the country for themselves, Ormel was quoted as saying.
The ban is probably connected to the visit of the exiled Tibetan leader, the Dalai Lama to the Netherlands two weeks ago. China had warned there would be repercussions if the Dalai Lama was welcomed in the parliamentary complex.
