Telegraaf books loss, NRC for sale
The Telegraaf Media Group, which publishes the Telegraaf newspaper and owns the shock blog website GeenStijl, booked a loss of €3.8m in the first three months of this year.
The company blamed the lack of advertising and divestment of several operations, such as its Ukraine activities, for the drop.
The company said it was on target with the reduction of its workforce by 500, first announced last year. TMG has some 3,000 employees.
Meanwhile, Belgium’s Persgroep publishing house says it plans to sell the Rotterdam-based afternoon paper NRC Handelsblad as part of its revamp of the PCM group. Persgroep, which already owns the Parool, is about to buy PCM but says the NRC and Volkskrant are competitors and one must go.
