‘Schools have €2bn too much in the bank’
The Netherlands’ primary and secondary schools have a combined €2bn in excess reserves, says the biggest teaching union AOb.
The union says school reserves are on average twice as high as necessary to cope with unforeseen problems.
‘Given the economic crisis, this would be a welcome moment to use those [surplus] reserves for investing in education,’ AOb chairman Walter Dresscher says in Monday’s NRC.
