Psychiatric isolation units under investigation

Health minister Ab Klink has launched an investigation into the use of isolation cells at psychiatric hospitals.

The investigation will look at how many patients are put in isolation units and for how long. It will also find out what criteria are used to separate patients and if the authorities have been informed.
The investigation follows claims that 151 people had been kept in isolation for at least a year. But according to health inspectorate figures in April just five people had been in an isolation cell for at least three months.
