Police officers not charged over car thief

Two police officers who shot dead a car thief as he drove away from them will not face criminal charges, the public prosecution department said on Monday.

The incident happened in Eindhoven last November after a short car chase.
The officers opened fire on the car carrying a 52- and a 36-year-old man after it drove off, damaging the front of the police car. The older man was shot dead.
The public prosecution department said the shooting was justified because the officers feared the man would create more havoc if he escaped.
A gun and a knife was later found in the car.
