Overijssel province backs Essent sale
The central province of Overijssel has backed the sale of energy company Essent to Germany’s RWE for over €9bn.
Overijssel owns 18.7% of Essent and is its second biggest shareholder. The vote was taken after a five hour debate, reports news agency ANP.
The province of Noord-Brabant is key to the sale of the Netherlands’ biggest power firm. It owns over 30% of Essent and councillors have voted narrowly against the sale.
RWE says it will only consider its offer for Essent to have succeeded if at least 80% of the shares are tendered.
