Former Feyenoord trainer Gertjan Verbeek now heads the list of candidates to take over from Louis van Gaal as head trainer at Alkmaar football club AZ, the Telegraaf reports.

Van Gaal, who took AZ to the premier league title this season, is to join Germany’s Bayern Munich next season.
Favourite for the job Co Adriaanse is no longer in the running because he wants to pay off a €1m fine for breaking his contract with Porto in 2006 and is too expensive, the paper says. Dick Advocaat has also turned down the job.
Verbeek was sacked by Rotterdam club Feyenoord in January when the club was languishing just five places above the relegation zone with 19 points.
