Intel buys 4% stake in ASMI

Intel Capital, the investment arm of the Intel Corporation, has bought a 4% stake in Dutch chip industry supplier ASMI.

Intel announced the purchase on Monday, saying that ASMI is ahead of the rest in terms of developing and researching chip making machinery.
Last week Japanese firm Tokyo Electron took a 4.9% stake in the Dutch firm.
ASMI is under pressure from activist shareholders who want to see the end of CEO Chuck del Prado.
