Hiddink calls for referees from top nations
European football body Uefa should only use referees from top football nations in important matches, says Dutchman and Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink.
Chelsea lost out on a place in the Champions League final on Wednesday night and Hiddink accused Norway’s Tom Henning Ovrebo of ignoring several potential penalties.
Hiddink criticised Uefa’s decision to appoint Ovrebo as referee because he is usually takes charge of matches in Norway, where there is less at stake and referees are under less scrutiny.
‘In big games like this you need top-notch referees who have had big experience in leagues like Spain, Italy, England and Germany,’ ITN news quoted Hiddink as saying.
