Helping hand for struggling home owners

The housing ministry is working on a package of measures to help home owners who cannot pay their mortgage because of the financial crisis, the Volkskrant reports on Thursday.

One measure under consideration would be to allow people who have moved and cannot sell their old home to rent it out temporarily, the paper says.
But insiders told the paper talks with housing corporations, councils, project developers and others are proceeding with more difficulty than expected.
The cabinet is due to discuss the plans on Friday.
The cabinet agreed to spend €700m on reducing the effect of the economic crisis on the housing market when it announced its recession-busting plan at the end of March.
House prices fell in Holland by over 3% in the first three months of this year while the number of transactions was down 43%.
