European poker champ distributes winnings
Dutchman Pieter de Korver (26), who won the European poker title this weekend, says much of his €2.3m winnings will go to repay family, friends and other poker players who supported him, the AD reports.
De Korver, who will now compete in the world title fight in Las Vegas in August, sold 40% of his potential prize money to his supporters.
‘That backing gave me so much more energy, which improved my play and my enjoyment,’ De Korver told the AD. ‘I am not bothered about giving up €900,000 of my prize money.’
The paper did not say how much De Korver had sold his potential winnings for.
One of his backers was Constant Rijkenberg, who won $1.5m in San Remo earlier this year. ‘He bought 2.5% of my prize money but because I had bought 5% of his, we don’t need to pay each other anything,’ De Korver said.
