EU elections: ‘revamp song contest’ CDA
The Eurovision song contest is a ‘low threshold cultural event which binds the European people’ but is in need of an overhaul, Wim van de Camp, who is leading the CDA campaign for the European elections says in Friday’s Telegraaf.
But changes made to the format in recent years are damaging the event and there should be a return to the ‘old-fashioned’ jury of experts, Van de Camp says. ‘As fervent opponents of referendums, we want a return to the jury of professionals and and end to tele-voting,’ the paper quotes him as saying.
The Dutch entry for this year’s contest, Shine by the Toppers, failed to qualify for Saturday’s final.
Van de Camp has pledged to make the song contest an election issue.
