Dutch poverty level same as Czech Republic

One in 10 people in the Netherlands lives under the official poverty level, the lowest percentage in Europe, according to the EU statistics agency Eurostat quoted by the Telegraaf.


The Czech Republic shares the Dutch position. On average, 16% of the European population live below the poverty level.
Eurostat defines the poverty level as 60% of the average income in a given country. The average income in the Netherlands is around €30,000 a year.
