Yemen kidnap couple to get back to work
The Dutch couple kidnapped in Yemen two weeks ago are keen to get back to work as soon as possible, the Volkskrant reports on Wednesday.
Jan Hoogendoorn and Heleen Janszen were freed by their captors on Tuesday. The couple were working on a water project in the south of the country funded with development aid money.
Meanwhile, foreign affairs minister Maxime Verhagen has stated that no ransom was paid for the couple.
According to Nos tv, the Yemen authorities had paid €325,000 to the tribesmen who kidnapped the Dutch couple. Their demands had included better schools and electricity provisions, the Volkskrant said.
