Wages rise 3.7% in first quarter
Wages set down in formal pay and conditions agreements (cao) rose an average of 3.7% in the first three months of this year, according to figures from the national statistics office CBS.
Most deals were signed before the recession began to bite, the CBS said. Unions are under pressure to agree to a pay freeze in all new pay deals.
In 2008 as a whole, wages rose an average of 3.4%.
