New growth seen for Ahold in Holland

The CEO of supermarket group Ahold sees opportunities for expanding the number of Albert Heijn outlets in the Netherlands, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Wednesday.

While there are many outlets in the central urban area known as the Randstad, in some parts of the country there are fewer Albert Heijns than Ahold would like, John Rishton was quoted as saying at Tuesday’s AGM.
An expansion into more non-food areas would also offer new chances to Ahold, the CEO said.
Rishton also said he was hopeful that the Portuguese supermarket division Jeronimo Martins Retail would be sold this year. The unit has been up for sale for some time and Ahold held talks with a number of potential buyers last year.
