Kidnapped Dutch couple released

A Dutch couple kidnapped by Yemeni tribesmen about two weeks ago were released on Tuesday and are well, according to the foreign ministry.

‘I can confirm that they have been released and the couple are in a good condition,’ a spokesman told news agency Reuters.
The BBC and other international news agencies had reported that the couple were freed on Monday.
Jan Hoogendoorn told Dutch world service radio that they had been well-treated by their kidnappers. ‘It was not life-threatening,’ he said.
In a statement, foreign minister Maxime Verhagen praised the Yemeni authorities for their handling of the kidnapping.
Hoogendoorn is employed on a water project in Yemen. He and his wife were kidnapped close to Sanaa.
