Holleeder faces 10 years for blackmail
The public prosecution department has called on appeal court judges in Rotterdam to jail suspected crime boss Willem Holleeder for 10 years for blackmailing three people.
Holleeder was sentenced to nine years in jail for blackmail at the end of 2007. Both he and the public prosecution department are appealing against that verdict.
At his first trial, Holleeder faced calls for a 12-year sentence. A spokesman for the department told news agency ANP the lower sentence was because of Holleeder’s poor health. The 2007 trial was disrupted because of his heart problems and Holleeder himself claims he does not have long to live.
The appeal court will rule in June.
