EU elections: VVD attacks CDA on Strasburg

Christian Democrat calls for the European parliamentary operation in Strasburg to be closed down is an effort to fool voters because France will never agree, the Liberal party campaign leader Hans van Baalen says in Tuesday’s Volkskrant.

Van Baalen was responding to the CDA’s manifesto, which says shutting down Strasburg, a reduction in civil service numbers and efforts to combat fraud can cut €23.2bn from the EU budget.
And Labour campaign leader Thijs Berman points out that the CDA’s call for an end to tobacco subsidies, which cost €1.1bn a year, is out of date because they will end in 2011.
