Den Helder reaches deal on mayor

Den Helder town council has reached a deal on the resignation of mayor Stefan Hulman, who hit the headlines over his controversial expenses claims and living costs.

Hulman has now agreed to step down after the council said it would buy his home for €580,000. Hulman will not claim damages or apply for wachtgeld – the unemployment benefit payable to civil servants.
