White man gets police top job after all

Home affairs minister Guusje ter Horst has done a U-turn and appointed a white man as police chief in the Zuid-Holland Zuid region after all.

Earlier this week it emerged that Ter Horst had stopped the appointment because of quota agreements to promote more women.
But the Telegraaf says national police chiefs have now agreed to work harder to achieve the government’s target for 25% of senior police jobs to be held by women or people from an ethnic minority by 2011.
This cleared the way for Teun Visscher’s appointment, the paper says.
