VVD MP calls Chinese ‘slit eyes’
Liberal (VVD) MP Arend Jan Boekestijn has left an apology on the internet messaging service Twitter for insulting the Chinese by calling them ‘slit eyes’.
In a debate about China’s former leader Mao being responsible for 73 million deaths with another Twitter user, the MP wrote: ‘Yes, I do forget the odd slit eye. There are so many of them.’ ‘I did not mean to insult anyone,’ the MP wrote later.
