US should drop invasion law: GroenLinks
Members of the left-wing green party GroenLinks in the European parliament have called on the US to drop a law allowing it to invade The Hague, news agency ANP reports.
The law, adopted several years ago, allows the US to invade The Hague if American soldiers are being held by the International Criminal Court. The US does not recognise the court which was set up to try people suspected of war crimes and genocide.
‘I would imagine that new president Barack Obama is softer towards this subject than his predecessor George Bush,’ said MEP Joost Langendijk. He plans to raise the issue during next week’s debate on European-US relations.
The Council of Europe has also called on the US to withdraw the law, ANP says.
