Memorial service for plane crash victims

There will be a memorial service at Schiphol Oost t next Wednesday for the victims of the Turkish air crash, Haarlemmermeer council announced on Wednesday evening.

Nine people died and dozens were injured when the Turkish Airlines Boeing 737 ploughed into a muddy field just before landing at Schiphol airport last Wednesday. Some 28 people are still in hospital.
The private service will be broadcast live by public service broadcaster NOS.
On Tuesday a report into the crash concluded that a faulty altitude meter was probably the cause of the disaster. Once the crew realised they were flying too low, it was too late to recover height.
Turkish newspapers are shocked at the report’s conclusions. ‘Everyone is to blame, except the Netherlands’ is the headline on the website story from Hürriyet, one of the biggest Turkish newspapers.
The Turkish pilots’ association says it is not satisfied with the report, according to Thursday’s Telegraaf.
