Local taxes to rise by 5%

Councils expect to collect €7.7bn in local councils in 2009, 5% more than in 2008, according to figures from national statistics office CBS and based on local government budgets.

The sewage tax will rise the most (by 6.5%), followed by property tax (4.7%) and refuse collection (2%).
The CBS points out the figures do not indicate how much private individuals will pay as they also include taxes for businesses.
