Fortis to scrap sub board bonuses: FD

Fortis Bank Nederland has become the first Dutch financial services group which has had government support to trim bonuses at a sub boardroom level, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Tuesday.

The paper bases its claim on ‘internal documents’.
Until now, Fortis, along with ING, ABN Amro and SNS Reaal have only scrapped management board bonuses.
Fortis’ sub board management level has 25 people, the FD says. Sources tell the paper that the group’s basic salary ranges from €130,000 to €220,000 a year and that bonuses can double that.
In addition, the bonus for other Fortis staff has been cut to a maximum of half 2007’s figure.
