EU-scepticism is a luxury, says minister

Talking about whether or not the European Union is a good thing is a ‘luxury’ given current economic conditions, junior foreign affairs minister Frans Timmermans told reporters in Strasburg on Thursday.

‘The real problem is how do we keep people in jobs. That is why we need Europe and the euro,’ news agency ANP reports Timmermans as saying.
Support for anti-EU political parties is growing ahead of June’s elections for the European parliament.
In the Netherlands Geert Wilder’s right-wing PVV party has a strong anti-European stance, calling for the abolition of the European parliament and reduced powers for Brussels.
