Dutch consider more troops to Afghanistan
The Netherlands is considering a request by Nato to send extra troops to Afghanistan to oversee the country’s elections which will probably be held in August, reports the Telegraaf.
A foreign affairs ministry spokesman has confirmed that more Dutch soldiers could be stationed in Afghanistan on a temporary basis, the paper says.
The cabinet has not, however, made a decision on the issue and it is unknown how many extra troops would be involved.
The issue is expected to be discussed during an informal meeting of foreign ministers from Nato countries in Brussels on Thursday, the Telegraaf says.
The Netherlands currently has around 1,650 soldiers in Afghanistan as part of the ISAF mission.
