UN tribunal acquits ex Serbian president

The United Nations Yugoslavia war crimes tribunal in The Hague on Thursday acquitted the former president of Serbia Milan Milutinovic on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Kosovo.


Milutinovic was among six people accused of deporting civilians and murdering hundreds in Kosovo in 1999. All had pleaded not guilty
The BBC reports that five former top Serbian officials were found guilty on charges relating to the 1990s conflict and will be jailed for between 15 to 22 years.
It was the court’s first ruling on crimes committed by Serbian forces in the breakaway region.
