Tough competition for World Cup bid

The Netherlands and Belgium face tough competition with their joint bid to stage the 2018 or 2022 football World Cup.

World football body FIFA said on Tuesday it had had 11 bids and will announce its decisions in December.
Spain and Portugal have also staged a joint bid. Other contenders include Australia, England, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Qatar, Russia and the United States.
FIFA chairman Sepp Blatter said last week that he would prefer a single country bid, rather than a joint effort.
