Skater Kramer takes third world title

Dutchman Sven Kramer took his third consecutive all-round world speed skating title on Sunday after facing strong competition from Norway’s Havard Bokko.

Bokko beat Kramer in the 1,500m and needed to beat him by 4.40 seconds in the 10,000m to win overall. But he broke too early and could not keep up his speed. Kramer finished nearly six seconds ahead to take the title.
Kramer became the first man in 30 years to take three consecutive world titles.
In the women’s event, Dutchwoman Ireen Wust came third. Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic took gold.
The men’s all-round title consists of races at 500m, 1,500m, 5,000m and 10,000m. The women’s competition involves the 500m, 1,500m, 3,000m and 5,000m.
