Social affairs minister Piet Hein Donner is to recommend that the ‘last in, first out’ rule should no longer apply when companies are deciding who to make redundant, according to Monday’s AD.
Donner is to recommend more flexibility for employers at the request of his Christian Democratic party, says the paper.
Christian Democrat MP Eddy van Hijum told the AD that the move will ensure ‘irreplaceable people’ are not automatically made redundant. But he stressed this did not mean the redundancy law would be relaxed.
Leo Hartveld of the FNV union said it would be better to spread the pain of redundancies over the whole company through the short-term working scheme.
