No custody for handicapped parents

A baby born to mentally-handicapped parents is to remain in care until August, a juvenile court judge ruled on Monday.

The judge in Arnhem said that the decision to return baby Hendrikus, who was taken into care shortly after he was born, will be postponed until the summer.
Meanwhile, an independent psychologist will assess the parents’ ability to care for the child, the NRC reports.
The child protection agency says the parents should play a role in their baby’s life but that they lack the emotional skills to raise the child successfully. They currently see the baby for one hour every two weeks.
